SANDAKAN: Eight football teams competed in the Sandakan Under-20 Football League for the Senator Datuk Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian Cup at the Sandakan Sports Complex, here, Sunday, celebrating Malaysia’s Independence Day 2025.
The league, organised by the Kelab Jurulatih Bola Sepak Sandakan, was officially launched by Anna Bell and attended by Organising Chairman cum Club Secretary, Azman Aprin.
Anna Bell welcomed the tournament as an opportunity for youth to spend their leisure time productively through sports while fostering patriotism in conjunction with this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
“Through sports like football, players can develop strong teamwork and competitive spirit,” she said.
Regarding youth education in the State, Anna Bell noted that the government remains committed to supporting students through educational assistance for both school and higher education levels.
She also expressed solidarity with the family of Zara Qairina Mahathir and hoped the case would be resolved in the best possible manner.
Meanwhile, Azman said the eight competing teams represent districts under the club’s supervision, including Sandakan, Beluran, Kinabatangan and Telupid.
