
Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old man was jailed eight years plus two strokes of the cane for raping an underaged girl.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed the sentence to Ag Fadil Ahmad @ Ahmad who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Ag Fadil had raped the 12-year-old girl between 5.10pm and 7.30pm on June 4, 2021 inside a hotel room in Papar.
The offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

Read more The court ordered Ag Fadil to serve the jail sentence from the date of conviction on Monday.
After serving the jail sentence, the court also ordered Ag Fadil to be placed under police supervision for two years.
During mitigation, counsel Farazwin Hexdy who defended Ag Fadil, asked for a low sentence, saying that Ag Fadil had decided not to proceed with the trial and admitted to the charge.
She said there was no violence and physical injuries during the incident.
Farazwin also informed the court that Ag Fadil needed to take care of his elderly mother who is sick.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Al Hakim Razak urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence on the grounds that Ag Fadil had showed no remorse as he only admitted to the charge after the prosecution had called two witnesses.
Al Hakim said that the incident had traumatised to the victim.
