Ahead of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the district administration has completed the mapping of nearly 84 per cent of the district’s voters with the 2003 electoral rolls.

On Sunday, the administration organised special verification camps at 1,786 polling stations across the district to cover the remaining cases.

The District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Patiala, Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, reviewed the SIR camps organised at polling stations across the district as part of the Election Commission of India’s voter verification and mapping exercise.

Inspecting five polling stations in the Patiala Lok Sabha constituency, Dr Aggarwal said the camps had been set up as per the directions of Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra to facilitate voter verification and mapping. He said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were stationed at polling booths from 10 am to 4 pm to assist citizens in checking electoral details and resolving voter list-related issues.

Emphasising the importance of accurate electoral rolls, Dr Aggarwal said a reliable voter list was the foundation of a strong democratic process and called upon citizens to cooperate with election officials to ensure that every eligible voter’s name is correctly recorded in the electoral rolls.

He urged voters to verify their details and submit the prescribed forms for corrections, additions or other necessary changes. Voters whose names, or those of their family members, have not yet been successfully matched with the 2003 electoral rolls were asked to contact their respective BLOs to complete the process.

While presiding over a meeting attended by ADCs Anuprita Johal and Navreet Kaur Sekhon, besides SDMs, electoral registration officers, supervisors and BLOs on Saturday, Dr Aggarwal said all discrepancies in the mapping process should be resolved to achieve 100 per cent coverage before the revision exercise begins.

Officials said voter records of 12,68,487 electors, out of the district’s total 15,20,190 voters across eight Assembly segments, had already been matched with the 2003 electoral rolls. The remaining cases were being processed on priority.
