86 illegals detained in Lahad Datu operation

LAHAD DATU: The State Immigration Department detained 86 illegal immigrants during an operation here on Thursday.

According to the department, a total of 157 individuals were inspected in the “Op Sapu” operation.

Seventy-four of them, detained under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, comprised 15 men, 17 women, 18 boys and 24 girls. The other 12 comprised 10 Indonesian men and two women.

All of them were detained for not having valid travel documents and overstaying.

The operation involved 59 personnel from the Lahad Datu Immigration Office, with cooperation from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau Immigration.

It was part of a continuous effort against illegal immigrants as well as to ensure public order and safety.
