SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — Eighty-seven Selangor community mediators have been appointed, with accreditation by the state National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN).

State executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail said they will act as peacemakers in conflicts or crises that could affect harmony within the community.

“These mediators were appointed in every district, and those with minor issues such as arguments with neighbours can meet them (peacemakers) at district unity offices.

“These members are trained volunteers who are community leaders. The service they provide is free,” he said.

Earlier, Rizam attended an engagement session between agencies and community mediators, as well as the appointment letter handover ceremony, at the Midlands Convention Centre here today.

Also present were Selangor JPNIN director Burhanuddin Daud and Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.

Community mediators catalyse the government’s efforts to foster unity at the grassroots. They are volunteer officers who work with community members to resolve issues amicably.
