Sam Allardyce has rejected the chance to re-join Newcastle United.
The Daily Mail says Toon approached Allardyce last week about a shock return to St. James' Park.
However, the former England manager turned down the opportunity over concerns about the club's recruitment policy.
Owner Mike Ashley was keen on a reunion with Allardyce because it would not cost him a compensation fee.
The Magpies other preferred candidate, Steve Bruce, is currently in charge of Sheffield Wednesday.
