An 8-year-old Malaysian student was left in tears after his classmates allegedly called him poor simply because he was picked up from school in a Perodua Axia.
‘Are Abah and Umi poor?’
Reported by mStar, the boy’s aunt said she had gone to pick up her nephew from school as usual.
However, she immediately sensed that something was wrong when he entered the car with red eyes, appearing as though he had just finished crying.
According to her, the boy had been given RM7 in pocket money that day as he did not have religious classes in the afternoon.
She felt that the amount was more than enough for him to spend at school.
However, shortly after getting into the car, he suddenly asked her a heartbreaking question.
Cik Su, are Abah and Umi poor?”
His aunt said she was shocked to hear such a question from a Year 2 student and immediately asked him what had happened.
Mocked for being picked up in an Axia
The boy then revealed that his classmates had allegedly called him poor because his aunt often picked him up in an Axia.
According to the woman, the children had mistaken her for his mother.
I was truly lost for words when I found out that Year 2 students could behave like that,” she wrote.
Following the incident, she urged parents to teach their children to respect others, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
She also expressed concern that such remarks could affect a child’s mental wellbeing if allowed to continue.
