NEARLY nine in 10 Filipino adults approve of their governors’ performance, while 90.1 percent give their mayors favorable ratings, a survey by Momentum Research showed.
The National Momentum Survey, conducted from Aug. 18 to 23, found that 87.5 percent of respondents rated their governors’ performance as either “good” or “very good,” while 9 percent gave unfavorable ratings.
Mayors received slightly higher marks, with 90.1 percent of respondents rating their performance positively and 8.5 percent giving unfavorable assessments.
The survey was based on face-to-face interviews with 1,487 Filipino adults nationwide and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
Momentum Research said favorable ratings for both local officials were consistent across regions, political affiliations and generations.
Of those surveyed, 69.7 percent rated their governors’ performance as “good,” while 17.8 percent said it was “very good.”
Another 7.7 percent rated their governors’ performance as “poor,” and 1.3 percent said it was “very poor.”
Mayors received a “good” rating from 64.7 percent of respondents, while 25.4 percent rated their performance as “very good.”
Meanwhile, 6.6 percent rated their mayors’ performance as “poor” and 1.9 percent as “very poor.”
Regional results showed differences in how Filipinos assessed their local officials.
Governors received their highest combined favorable rating in Visayas at 90.9 percent, followed by the rest of Luzon at 87.2 percent and Mindanao at 84.7 percent. Disapproval of governors was highest in Mindanao at 11.5 percent.
For mayors, the rest of Luzon recorded the highest favorable rating at 91.6 percent, followed by Mindanao at 90.1 percent, Visayas at 89.7 percent, and Metro Manila at 85.7 percent.
Metro Manila also had the highest combined unfavorable rating for mayors at 14 percent, compared with 6.4 percent in the rest of Luzon, 9.1 percent in the Visayas, and 8.8 percent in Mindanao.
Political affiliations also showed differences in the ratings.
Pro-Marcos respondents gave governors a favorable rating of 90.8 percent, higher than the 87.2 percent among pro-opposition respondents and the 87 percent each among pro-Duterte respondents and independents.
Mayors received their highest favorable rating among pro-Marcos respondents at 92.6 percent, followed by independents at 91.7 percent, pro-opposition respondents at 88.8 percent and pro-Duterte respondents at 88.1 percent.
Momentum Research said the survey was non-commissioned. It noted that margins of error were larger for regional and other subgroup estimates than for the nationwide results.
