SANDAKAN: A total of 99 out of 200 education-related projects by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education in Sabah under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) have been completed.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the 200 projects are worth RM4.54 billion.

“Of these, 99 projects worth RM568.2 million are completed, 33 projects worth RM2.58 billion are in pre-construction, and 68 projects worth RM1.395 billion are under construction.

“Out of the total, 197 are Education Ministry projects while three belong to the Higher Education Ministry,” he said.

He said this during a press conference held in conjunction with a site visit to the dilapidated school building project at SK Batu Putih, Sandakan on Thursday.

During the visit, he inspected the rebuilding of SK Batu Putih Baru, a design-and-build project awarded to Eastbourne Corporation Berhad, with JKR’s Special Project Team 2 as the implementing agency.

“This project is crucial as the original 42-year-old building is in very poor condition. It must be rebuilt to ensure a modern, quality and conducive learning environment,” he said.

With a contract value of RM43.89 million, the project involves demolishing the old administrative block, academic block with 18 classrooms, preschool, canteen and other facilities.

Construction began on 24 February 2025 and is scheduled for completion by 22 April 2029.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Maslan also announced an RM18 million allocation to repair damaged roads along the Pan Borneo Highway packages 25 and 26 from Batu 6 Roundabout to Sukau Roundabout in Kinabatangan.

He said maintenance works will be carried out quickly for the benefit of road users.

Separately, he instructed JKR to assess damage to federal and state roads in flood-affected areas in Sabah’s west coast.
