95.72% of BARMM election returns received as Maluso voting extended

(UPDATED) MANILA, Philippines — A total of 4,989 election returns (ERs), or 95.72 percent of the expected returns, had been received as of 12:05 a.m. Tuesday as counting continued in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections.

The latest figures showed 223 ERs had yet to be received, according to the latest Commission on Elections (Comelec) data.

The number of received ERs rose from 4,694 at 9:30 p.m. Monday, when 518 returns remained unreceived and 90.06 percent of expected returns had been received.

Meanwhile, voting in Maluso, Basilan will be extended on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) allowed to vote starting at 5 a.m.

The extension follows the discovery of pre-shaded ballots in 36 of Maluso's 68 precincts.

The Comelec placed Maluso under its control and ordered the reprinting of the affected ballots.
