HONG KONG: A strong 6.5 earthquake hit off the southern coast of Australia on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warning.

The shallow quake occurred 1,040km southwest of Geeveston in Australia in the western Indian-Antarctic Ridge, the agency said, at a depth of about 10km. — AFP
