At the mid-way point in the regular season (with three clubs having played six games and the others having completed 5 games), three of the top four did not make the playoffs last season, including high-flying and undefeated Western Sydney Wandererseffectively utilizing three new imports from the 2 time reigning NWSL Champions North Carolina Couragethree-time W-League champions and also undefeated Melbourne Citywho missed the semifinals last season on goal differenceand two-time league Champions Canberra United, who missed the playoffs the last two seasons. 2018/19 Champions Sydney FC would be the only repeat playoff team from last season, with 2018/19 Premiership winners Melbourne Victory, Brisbane Roar and last season Grand Final runners-up Perth Glory all missing out. Victory and Roar are still in the hunt for the semifinals, while Perth is near the bottom of the table and struggling to deal with life after Sam Kerr, who has committed to joining Chelsea in the English Super League when the transfer window opens.
