*UPDATE: During a press conference, Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba clarified that the allowance under this fund would only be available for those who have no fixed income or are self-employed.

The Ministry of Health has established a special fund for those who have been directly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The government launched Tabung Covid-19 yesterday with a RM1 million grant and is encouraging members of the public to contribute towards it.

“We view Covid-19 seriously. The Covid-19 fund is aimed at helping those infected with the virus, especially patients whose work was affected while being quarantined,” said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The fund will provide a RM100 daily allowance to those who have no fixed income during the period of quarantine and treatment for Covid-19. Under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, those who have close contact with a person suspected of having Covid-19 must be quarantined at home or in a Health Ministry registered hospital for 14 days.

Those who are interested in contributing to the Covid-19 fund can send donations to Bank Muamalat account 1601-0001138-71-4.
