Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has revealed the moment he told Jurgen Klopp that he was close to winning trophies at the club.
Last week Klopp ended the Reds' 30-year wait for a Premier League title, one year after winning the Champions League, his first trophy for the club.
And Souness says he told Klopp after a win over Cardiff City in April 2019 that he was nearing success at Anfield.
"The first couple of years, they had near miss after near miss," Souness said, via the Liverpool Echo. "But I remember saying to Jurgen on the field after they beat Cardiff last season that his team was ready to win the big trophies now.
"Of course, he was hardly like to say 'you're right' on air, but he acknowledged it with a nod and a smile."
On Klopp's side, Souness added: "Jurgen has done the most incredible job," says Souness. "And the recruitment overall has been off the charts. There have only been a couple of signings who haven't yet lived up to expectations.
"Think of the how they sold Philippe Coutinho and brought in Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker with that money. That turned them from a very good team that was knocking on the door to one that can win the Champions League and Premier League.
"In football, you're only as strong as the weakest part of your team. And right now Liverpool have no weaknesses."
