If you own an older Mazda vehicle with an MZD Connect infotainment system, it is now possible to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. According to PaulTan, Bermaz, the authorised distributor for Mazda vehicles in Malaysia is now offering retrofit kits to its customers.

It is reported that the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay retrofit is applicable to vehicles with the MZD Connect system which is found on the 4th gen Mazda 2, 3rd gen Mazda 3 and 1st gen CX-5 facelift. If you’re interested, the upgrade will cost you RM1,055 inclusive of labour and it comes with a hub module, cable harness and software updates. It was reported that a similar kit was offered in Australia back in 2018 for AUD 494.98 (about RM1,456).

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are currently available on the newer Mazda models that were introduced in the market. This includes the Mazda CX-30, CX-8, facelifted Mazda 2, 4th gen Mazda 3 and the updated Mazda 6, CX-5, CX-9 and MX-5 RF.

Do note that the phone connectivity for Mazda isn’t wireless and you’ll have to hook it up via a cable. Android Auto is still not officially available in Malaysia. If you’re using Android 9 and below, you will need to sideload the Android Auto APK to your phone. However, the app is already pre-installed on Android 10.

Editor’s Note: Added clarity on Android Auto availability for Android 10 devices.
