Dean Smith insists Aston Villa are desperate to show they can stay in the Premier League after Sunday's 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
Villa remain in 19th after Norwich City, Bournemouth and Watford also losing over the weekend.
He said: "There's only been a few wins down the bottom. We deserve more. We have to keep believing. The game plan for today, we knew if we tried to out-play them it'd be crazy. We had a good structure about us defensively.
"Unfortunately, we didn't show the quality they did in the final third."
Smith added: "We've got a tight-knit group who are hurting a little bit with where we are and the criticism we've been getting. They're desperate to show we're more than capable to show we can stay in this league."
