L'Equipe says Napoli are leading the chase for the 22-year-old Brazilian.
Another club interested in Gabriel is Arsenal's Premier League rivals Everton. There are another two unnamed clubs monitoring the situation too.
But Arsenal have now lodged an offer for Lille centre-half Gabriel.
The Gunners are also in talks with off contract Nice defender Malang Sarr.
