Bristol City are hoping to lure Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard to the club as manager.

Gerrard, who is in charge at Rangers, is the Championship club's top target to take over.

Bristol Live claims Gerrard has not turned down the chance to take over from Lee Johnson, and is the one the board wants.

It is unclear if he is particularly interested in the offer, as talkSPORT suggested on Friday he was not willing to leave Rangers just yet.

Bristol City are hoping they can convince Gerrard that with the right signings, he could help the club make a push for promotion to the Premier League.
