The Colombia international is now likely to depart, as the clubs work to agree a fee for him.
Lille are seeking Morelos as a replacement for want-away star Victor Osimhen, who is being linked with a move to the Premier League.
It is unclear what fee Rangers will expect for Morelos.
Last year, the club's managing director Stewart Robertson reportedly said Morelos had a value similar to Moussa Dembele, who departed Celtic in 2018 for £19.7 million.
