Leicester City have guaranteed European football next season with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

Debutante Luke Thomas set Ayoze Perez for the opening goal after 29 minutes. The 19-year-old put a low cross into the box and Perez finished smartly past Dean Henderson.

The game hung in the balance from there and the Blades came close to equalising but Jack O'Connell's shot was tipped wide by Kasper Schmeichel.

But Brendan Rodgers' side had the three points when Demerai Gray, a second-half substitute, collected a pass from Jamie Vardy and went around Henderson to make it 2-0.

The Foxes will play in Europe next year and the following two games will decide in which competition. They are in fourth-place, one point behind Chelsea and ahead on goal difference to Manchester United, who they play on closing day.

For the Blades, they remain in eighth, two points behind sixth-place Wolves.

Speaking after the game, Rodgers said: "I thought we were brilliant, Sheffield United deserve so much credit for how they have worked and how Chris Wilder has got them playing, but we were outstanding.

"We have played well since we have come back but not been consistent enough. Tonight we were able to do that. A very good performance.

"The result gives us the second-highest finish in Leicester's history. We have two games to go to create some more history."
