Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists Kevin de Bruyne doesn't need awards to mark how good he is.

De Bruyne came second behind Liverpool's Jordan Henderson in the award for the FWA Footballer of the Year, and manager Pep Guardiola says it is "not necessary to say how fantastic" the Belgian is.

"Kevin speaks for himself what he gives to our team," said Guardiola.

"At the same time, congratulations to the captain at Liverpool. He's a really good player. I would love Kevin to score a million goals but I think he prefers making assists.

"In the last period he has enjoyed taking penalties and taking direct free kicks. But this season and the year we were Centurions it's incredible how well he played."
