Rangers boss Steven Gerrard tops Bristol City's shortlist as they seek a new manager.

City owner Steve Lansdown is looking for a new boss for his Championship outfit after sacking Lee Johnson last weekend following a run of nine games without a win.

He has drawn up a shortlist that includes Liverpool legend Gerrard, 40, who has spent the last two years in charge of Rangers in Scotland, says the Daily Express.

Former Brighton boss Chris Hughton, Charlton's Lee Bowyer and Plymouth Argyle's Ryan Lowe are also in the frame.

But Lansdown believes that Gerrard is the man to fulfil his ambition of mounting a bid to win promotion to the Premier League next season.
