Sky Germany believes City are weighing up a move for the 28-year-old, who has a contract until 2021.
But the paper also claims that Alaba would prefer a move to Spain at this stage of his career.
Barcelona is the possible destination, but it is unclear if the Catalan giants have the will or funds to sign Alaba.
