Arsenal are holding back from triggering the 12 month option in the contract of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Aubameyang can simply leave the club on a free in 2021, should Arsenal opt against cashing in on him in this summer's transfer window.
The Athletic says Aubameyang has a one-year extension clause in his current contact, meaning Arsenal can keep him at the club until 2022.
The problem though is that triggering the clause would put the Gunners under some financial strain, given what Aubameyang earns.
Not only this, but it would force a player who my be looking to leave to remain at the club, in some ways against his will, which could disrupt changing room harmony.
