Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has ruled out challenging for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Messi submitted a transfer demand earlier this week.
"No, we simply cannot afford a player of that calibre," Rummenigge said in an interview with Tuttosport.
"That is also not part of our policy and philosophy.
"The rumours about a possible departure make me a bit sad. Leo wrote the history of that club on his own and he should also end his career there. There are things going on internally and privately that I don't know about. That's why I don't want to go into it any further."
