Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is weighing up when to introduce new signing Nathan Ferguson to training.

Ferguson, Crystal Palace's only signing of the summer so far, is working back to fitness in one-on-one sessions as he recovers from the injury which saw a January move from West Brom collapse on deadline day.

"It is that difficult moment, when do you put him back into competitive training, when do you put him back in training that is a lot more intense than what he has been doing during his rehab," Hodgson told Palace TV. "No one has got a 100 per cent answer to that.

"At the moment, the sports science and medical people are wanting to keep him back a bit more but I have got to say when I see him doing is one-to-one work with the sports scientists he looks fine but of course we don't know until he gets into a situation where he has got to twist and turn, hold off challenges, where he has got to accept a bit more weight going onto that knee how he is going to really react.

"I have to be patient and wait for them to tell me that the strength is where it should be and he can come back into training.

"He is looking okay from what I can see, we would like to see him in with us training every day so we can get an even better idea of what he is able to do for us."
