Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he was at fault for having Rhian Brewster take a penalty.

The youngster was brought on very late in the Community Shield with the sole purpose of taking a spot kick.

But he ended up missing, and the Reds lost 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in normal time.

And Klopp thinks Brewster will come out of this episode a stronger player.

"This will not harm Rhian," said Klopp to reporters of the youngster. "If anyone is to blame, it is me.

"I wanted him in the position because he is a real finisher and confident. Today, not. That happens in life and in football.

"We all have to learn and prove we can deal with defeats. If he would have scored and someone else missed, it is the same theme.

"There are bigger reasons than that. Missing it like this is possible. I have never seen him miss one but it happens."
