An agent has criticised Chelsea for their "overspending" in this summer's market.

Frank Lampard was unable to make any signings last summer but has been making up for lost time

The new faces include Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Hakim Ziyech.

It has seen Chelsea spend over £200m - though the arrivals of Silva and Sarr came on free transfers.

And the London outfit are not done yet with a goalkeeper and Declan Rice in Lampard's sights.

But a top-ranking agent told The National: “£80 million is not getting you an established superstar this summer.

“Clubs don't want to sell or need to sell – yet.

“With Madrid and [Barcelona] not buying, Chelsea have seen a gap and gone for it, but they've spent less in recent seasons because of a ban and they're also owned by one the richest men in the world.

“They're also overpaying to bring players in."
