Kota Kinabalu: The Labour Law Reform Coalition (LLRC) called on all political parties, MPs, State Assembly members and 16th State Election candidates to protect the rights of timber workers who have been victims of union busting.

LLRC Co-Chairpersons N Gopal Kishnam (pic) and Irene Xavier, had urged those concerned to specifically protect the workers’ right to join the Sabah Timber Industry Employees Union (STIEU) and bargain collectively with their employers.

“Their right to negotiate collectively has been violated due to prolonged legal battles on claim for recognition filed by Sabah Forest Industry (SFI) since 1991, this denies STIEU’s right to bargain for workers’ wages and welfare for 29 years.
