Former Valencia sporting director Javier Subirats insists Ferran Torres will 'go well' at Manchester City.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Valencia, his boyhood club, and made his break in the first-team in 2017.

And after a stellar 2019/20 campaign, in which he made 34 La Liga appearances, Torres was signed by City in a deal reportedly worth €23m.

Torres signed a five-year contract with his new club, crediting Pep Guardiola's presence as a major factor in his decision.

While Subirats - who also spent 12 years as a player for Los Che - believes that although Torres can succeed in England, he still must work to justify his price-tag.

"Ferran Torres is a good player. At this moment, he has a good future," the 62-year-old told Tribalfootball.com.

"Perhaps he is not as good as his transfer fee yet… but clubs like to make bets on players with potential. I believe he is a player that needs to demonstrate more to justify being in the elite of clubs like Manchester City.

"He has some really great skills, technique and qualities as a player and it's an important buy for Manchester City too. I'm sure it will go well for him there.

"I'm also sure that he was convinced by Manchester City to play for them with promises that he will play for the team and be part of their project for the Champions League as well as being surrounded by some truly great players. The opportunity to play for Manchester City is really attractive for any player these days."

Torres will likely make his City debut in Monday night's Premier League clash with Wolves.

It is City's first Premier League match of the season after they were granted an extended preseason due to their participation in the Champions League.
