Rennes captain Damien da Silva accepts they're losing goalkeeper Edouard Mendy this summer.
Mendy has agreed a five-year contract with Chelsea, which are now negotiating transfer terms with Rennes.
Da Silva told Telefoot: “We are a little selfish, we don't want to lose Edouard Mendy.
"But it's part of football and the transfer market. He's a great goalkeeper who deserves what happens to him."
With Mendy between the sticks, Rennes posted the joint-best defensive record in Ligue 1 last season and finished in the third Champions League qualifying spot last season.
