Liverpool's long-term interest in Anderlecht whiz Jeremy Doku has been uncovered.
The 18-year-old forward was handed his first cap by Roberto Martinez on Saturday, coming on as a substitute for the final two minutes of a 2-0 win over Denmark in Copenhagen.
Handed a first start against Iceland in Brussels on Tuesday night, Doku completed a 5-1 rout by netting Belgium's final goal 11 minutes from the end.
HLN's Kristof Terreur revealed: “Liverpool tried to sign him 2 years ago.
He quotes Doku as saying: “They invited my parents and me for a stadium tour and a visit to the training ground. Mané talked to me. Klopp showed interest too."
Adding that the player “decided to stay" (at Anderlecht), Terreur claimed: “Liverpool even added a special Doku clause in the loan deal with Anderlecht for Lazar Markovic.
“Anderlecht's General Manager Herman Van Holsbeek (said) at the time: 'We didn't have a choice. Liverpool told us: you can loan Markovic, but we want to talk to Doku.'"
