A 33-year-old woman was sentenced to 20 months’ jail and fined RM450 or two weeks jail, Thursday, for trying to sell fake gold jewellery to a goldsmith.Normanisah Jasmani pleaded guilty before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to cheating Michael Wong by inducing him to buy the fake gold at a goldsmith shop in Kepayan Centre Plaza Shopping Mall, Kepayan Ridge, at 3pm on Feb 29 this year. Normanisah was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code read with Section 511 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years and whipping (if a man was the offender) and liability of a fine, upon conviction.

She was ordered to serve the prison sentence from Thursday. Earlier, the court was informed by the prosecution that on the said day, Normanisah came to Wong’s shop along with a man named Rudy, to sell gold jewellery. Wong examined the gold produced by Normanisah and found it as fake. Wong then asked for their identification documents, which Rudy gave while Normanisah told Wong that she did not carry any.

Wong then lodged a police report regarding the matter. Requesting for a lenient sentence, Normanisah, who was not represented, informed the court that she has three children and also taking care of her sisters and mother. Normanisah also told the court that she has a valid identification document. Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuted applied for an adequate sentence.
