Real Madrid great Hugo Sanchez has questioned the club's transfer policy.
Sanchez believes Real are short of expected standards in several positions of coach Zinedine Zidane's team.
He told El Larguero: “Real Madrid is the best team of all time and they have the best footballers in the world. In some position they are not the best in the world, but people who fill the gap while they wait for others who are like Mbappé to arrive.
"Real Madrid must have, not two, but almost three starting teams to face all competitions."
He continued: “Before releasing a player of the level of Cristiano Ronaldo we should have had another to replace him and to score a similar percentage of goals. And if not, better to not let him go."
And on Karim Benzema, Sanchez added: “He has never been a nine. He's a nine and a half, he's not a specialised guy for a nine. There was a kind of football marriage between Benzema and Cristiano, as happened to (Emilio) Butragueño and me, but since they got divorced ... What Benzema needs is to have a partner who takes away that role of nine and allows him to be a nine and a half, which is where he can give the maximum of his potential."
