PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has proposed another motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for the upcoming Dewan Rakyat meeting beginning next month.

Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik and Jerlun MP Mukhriz Mahathir also proposed their own no-confidence motions against Muhyiddin yesterday.

In a letter to Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun yesterday, Mahathir asked him to allow a resolution stating that Muhyiddin does not have the majority support of MPs.

The Langkawi MP had filed a similar motion on May 7.

Earlier today, Kubang Pasu MP Amiruddin Hamzah also sought a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin. He said he had sent a letter to the speaker requesting for the motion to be allowed during the new parliamentary meeting.

Lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said more MPs were expected to file similar motions by the 5pm deadline today.

On Sept 25, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah wrote to Azhar asking for a “guarantee” that the no-confidence motion originally proposed by Mahathir would be raised at the meeting.

However, Tengku Razaleigh was asked to consult with de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan on getting the no-confidence motion tabled and debated.

Azhar said he was bound by the rules of the Dewan Rakyat and had “no problem” considering such motions if all government affairs are completed or if there is a motion by a minister under Regulation 14 (2) to prioritise private motions.
