Trailer plunges hit ravine: 1 dead

BELURAN: A trailer driver died after it skidded and plunged into a ravine at Km115 of the Bukit Ular area of ​​Jalan Nangoh Paitan, here, Monday afternoon.

Beluran District Police Chief Supt. Kasim Muda said Johnaidi Pongotan, 36, was believed to have lost control of the truck upon reaching a winding road due to brake failure causing it to plunge into the ravine in the 6.40pm incident. 

“The trailer loaded with oil palm fruits was on its way from Oshpalm Pitas Estate to oil palm factory located in Sungai Ruku Kinabatangan

“Preliminary investigations found that the brake was believed to have malfunctioned while passing a hilly and winding road.

“The incident caused the driver to suffer severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.

Kasim said the victim’s body was sent to Beluran Hospital for an autopsy and the case was investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
