Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has opened the door to signing Liverpool fullback Nathaniel Clyne.

The Eagles lost 4-0 to Chelsea today and full-back Joel Ward was on the end of a challenge which manager Roy Hogdson called "horrendous".

The boss was asked about Ward after the game, and whether his potential injury presents and opportunity for free agent Clyne.

Hodgson said: "First of all with Joel, it was a horrendous looking challenge, I was very, very concerned for him.

"It was good to see him walk off the field but I've not had the chance unfortunately to check with our medical department to find out the extent of any potential injury because I've had to come upstairs quickly to do the media work.

"When it comes to Nathaniel, we played that game we wanted to see him in. Now it's a question of meeting with his representatives, and Nathaniel himself and seeing if there's some sort of deal that will suit both sides.

"Importantly, I've seen enough from him in training, which is more important [than his Under-23s appearance].

"He's still a way off the level of fitness and level of playing that we think he's capable of, but that's not so surprising when you see the amount of time he's had away from the game due to the injury."
