Will M’sia consider postal voting due to Covid?

Kuala Lumpur: Fresh off the state election in Sabah, Malaysia is now dealing with a third wave of Covid-19 cases, blamed on the carelessness and complacency that marked the campaign period.  

Admitting previous containment measures were inadequate to contain the spike in cases following the Sabah state election, the government has now issued varying degrees of movement restriction orders for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Putrajaya and Sabah.

As Malaysia expects to hold a few elections soon — namely the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election in December and the Sarawak state election by June next year, and possibly the 15th General Election (GE15) within a year — public health experts are worried there will be repeats of the Sabah situation as long as the pandemic is active and no effective vaccine is available.
