Tottenham have inflicted a joint-worst home Premier League defeat on 10-man Manchester United with a 6-1 scoreline at Old Trafford.

The game started perfectly for the hosts when Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot after Anthony Martial was fouled in the box within two minutes.

But the Red Devils were culpable of some awful defending as they copped four goals in the first-half.

Harry Maguire's meek header back to David De Gea forced a scramble in the box, with Tanguy Ndombele capitalising to score an equaliser.

Son Heung-min put Spurs ahead after receiving an excellent pass from Harry Kane, who then made 3-1 after another mistake in the United defence.

United were also down to 10 men when Anthony Martial dragged his hand across Erik Lamela's face.

South Korean star Son and Serge Aurier scored either side of half-time to put the north London side ahead by four goals.

Harry Kane then scored from the penalty spot after Ben Davies was fouled by Paul Pogba.

The three points moves Spurs up to fifth while United are sitting 16th after three games.

And after the game, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the loss was his worst as a United manager and player.

"It's my second language so it's very difficult to put it into words," Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told BBC Radio 5 Live. "It's a horrible feeling, the worst day I've had as a Manchester United manager and player.

"I've been part of big defeats before and we've bounced back so we've just got to let the boys go away on international duty, find their mojo themselves and the others that are going to stay here, we've got to help them.

"After a result like this you need to clear your mind and head and look forward.

"Sometimes you make mistakes, that's part of life and we made too many mistakes in one game of football and that shows in the result against a very good football team. They are a team full of quality and we got punished almost every time we made a mistake."

He added: "If it's a different shape, mentality, I don't know, but it will be different. We can't accept performances like this. I hold my hands up, I'm in charge and I'm responsible for this."
