Kidnapping remains significant concern

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 75 piracy attacks were reported in the first three quarters of this year in Asian waters.

The Regional Piracy Monitoring Centre (ReCAAP) said the incidents show an increase of nearly 40 per cent relative to last year and a higher number than at any point since 2015.

Almost all of the attacks, according to ReCAAP report, were armed robberies but four were more serious acts of piracy.
