Manchester United are ready to hand summer signing Joe Hugill an instant pay-hike.

The Manchester Evening News says Hugill is expected to sign a professional contract with Manchester United just three months after joining the club.

Hugill, a £300,000 summer signing from Sunderland, celebrates his 17th birthday on Monday and is believed to have agreed a deal until 2023.

Hugill has already been fast-tracked into the Under-23s even though he is a first-year academy scholar and scored two in three starts, as well as converting a penalty in the Under-21s' EFL Trophy shootout victory at Rochdale.

United fought off competition from Arsenal and Tottenham to sign Hugill, who was on the scoresheet in the U23s's 3-3 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.

A shortage of strikers at reserve level forced U23 coach Neil Wood to promote Hugill after just one appearance for the Under-18s in which he scored twice on his debut against Blackburn.
