Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed six years each for taking syabu repeatedly.Mohd Asri Saripudin and Saint James pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to the charge against them. Mohd Asri and Saint were also handed a stroke of the cane each.

They were arrested separately on Aug 11 this year after their urine tested positive for drug at the police station here. Investigation revealed that the duo have several previous convictions for taking the drug, respectively. They committed the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and read together under Section 39C (1)(b) of the same Act which provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction. The duo was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest. After serving their jail sentence, they were ordered placed under police supervision for two years.

Meanwhile, the case of a 24-year-old man charged with having and planting cannabis, will be mentioned back on Nov 2 this year. Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus set the date for Nicklen Jaccqres. Nicklen is accused of having and planting the one cannabis tree at 2.40pm on Aug 19 this year at a room of a house in Kg Bahang, Jalan Hungab, Penampang. The offence under Section 6B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 6B(3) of the same Act which provides for a life imprisonment, and whipping at least six strokes of the cane, on conviction. So far, no plea was taken from Nicklen. Pending the date, Nicklen was ordered remanded further.
