Everton turned down the chance to sign Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger.

The Toffees were looking for a center half in the dying stages of the summer transfer window.

They could have signed Rudiger on loan, but The Athletic claims the overall financial package was too rich.

Chelsea wanted a £5 million loan fee for the season.

In addition, the Toffees would have needed to pay all of Rudiger's £150K-a-week wages.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti ultimately rejected the deal.
