SANDAKAN: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Member of Parliament for Sandakan, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, said the proposed quarantine transit centre for illegal immigrants should be located away from existing housing estates to prevent any unnecessary panic and fear among local residents.

“When setting up a quarantine transit centre for the illegals, it is absolutely crucial that the centre should not be located within existing housing estate,” said Vivian, in response to Senior Minister for Defence, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement earlier that the government will be setting up four quarantine transit centres for illegal immigrants in Sabah in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
