The agent of Gareth Bale has slammed the press in England and Spain over their sniping at Tottenham's loan signing.
Bale has returned to Tottenham this season after seven years away with Real Madrid.
"The press in Spain and in England really look to knock their superstars down," Jonathan Barnett told talkSPORT. "We've got a very down press in Britain and I think what they did with Gareth was an example of it.
"Instead of shouting how great he is and taking his side, they come out with some of the most ridiculous things.
"Things like he's suffering because he cannot speak Spanish. Well it's written by somebody who knows nothing because he does speak Spanish.
"These little things they write without checking their facts is pretty disgraceful."
Barnett was particularly upset with the mockery Bale received for his golf habits, adding: "A majority of footballers love and play golf. I have a lot of footballers on my books and a lot of them play golf.
"It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of in my whole life.
"I remember when Bryan Lara, whom I looked after, needed to break the all time runs record, he got up at six in the morning and went and played golf to ease his mind before getting on the pitch to break the world record.
"People do things to enjoy themselves and this stuff is written by absolute morons.
"Nothing went wrong for Gareth. He had a great career there in his seven years. Towards the end it went a bit sour but for the most part it didn't go wrong.
"He loves Real Madrid, he loves the town. He was also very popular there, contrary to what people have written."
