Burnley boss Sean Dyche says they must be mentally tougher after their 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

The Clarets feel to a fifth defeat in six Premier League games as Chelsea coasted to victory at Turf Moor.

And the Burnley boss insisted the character in the camp would be crucial in turning around their form and climbing off he foot of the table.

“It's not been ideal; working in the market hasn't been ideal and the injuries haven't been ideal, but it's all part of the tapestry of this football club," said Dyche.

“It's never been an easy ride since I've been here and I've been down this road before. It's a tough road to be on, but we have to make sense of it and the only way we can do – once players get fit, which is helpful – is to keep the mentality strong, along with the fitness levels and the belief in what we do.

“All those things have to come together to make sure we look after ourselves, but it's tough against these sides.

Chelsea have invested heavily and teams gel eventually. Sometimes you just have to take the punishment on a day when you are not right at it and they are.

“Of course, we want to win every game and we've shown on occasions that we can compete with these teams on a one-off basis, but equally we have to realise that's not actually the division we are working in; we have to get points from other games."
