Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is delighted with Oriol Romeu's new contract.
The 29-year-old Spaniard signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract earlier this week that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2023.
"He was always important for us," said the Austrian manager.
"He is the kind of professional player that you don't meet that often in your career as a manger. He is a role model for professionals. He acts in a team and is important even if he is not playing.
"He is enjoying what we are doing here. But he has made big progress in his game with the ball in the last few weeks."
