Toni Nadal has called for Barcelona to try and convince Lionel Messi to stay after it emerged he could become a new member of the club's board.

Nadal, uncle and former coach of 20-times Grand Slam tennis champion Rafa, has joined forces with Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font ahead of the upcoming election.

If Font wins the presidency, Nadal will be in charge of institutional relations and will lead a new department created to promote good behaviour among youth players.

"I don't know if I see myself capable, but I would try for sure," Nadal told Sport.

"I wish they gave me the opportunity to try. I would like to see him win another Champions League with us.

"Winning the Ballon d'Or and I would like him to help us make an exciting project."
