Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is disappointed he is not able to make five substitutions in the Premier League.

Many European leagues continued with the policy started after the COVID-19 shutdown of having five substitutes, given the fixture congestion since the early summer.

But the Premier League went back to three, which is a policy many managers of the "big clubs" do not appreciate.

"I would strongly support [five changes in England]," Arteta told reporters.

"We are here to give the best possible show. We need the players.

"They are the most important part of that. We have to protect them. It goes on and on and on.

"We're going to have some really bad news with players that we are not respecting."

He added: "It's not a coincidence, the percentage rate of muscular injuries.

"Intensity is not going to go down, the level of demands, the quality.

"Every match will be so competitive. Players will get injured."
