Kedah technician dies after fire extinguisher explodes

Kota Kinabalu: An electronics technician died after a car fire extinguisher (pictured) exploded at his home in Sungai Petani, Kedah on Sunday, Astro Awani reported.

Mohamad Yusri Omar, 43, was repairing a radio when the incident happened in Bandar Puteri Jaya at about 1.15 pm.

His wife, who was in the kitchen, heard a loud explosion and rushed to find her husband lying in a semi-conscious state.

Kuala Muda District Police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah said the woman and her neighbour then rushed Yusri to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.

Upon arrival, the technician was still conscious but a doctor confirmed the man died about 20 minutes later.

Adzli said investigation found the victim's neighbour had earlier noticed the fire extinguisher emitting white smoke.

The fire extinguisher exploded when Yusri was trying to remove it.

As a result of the explosion, the technician suffered severe injuries to his hands, thighs and legs.

Adzli said the Forensic Division of the Fire and Rescue Department was called to the scene to find out the cause of the explosion.

They found cutting marks on the fire extinguisher.

Yusri’s remains were taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for an autopsy.
